BROADSTAIRS PARK BATTLE GOES ON – BUT WHO PAYS THE BILL?

Broadstairs town council has voted to take legal action against Thanet District Council in the continuing row over Pierremont Park.

The move comes just weeks after the district council blocked plans by the town council to build a controversial new community centre in the park.

The town council is seeking legal advice in an effort to recover the tens of thousands of pounds it’s already spent on plans for the centre.

The town council’s move has led to furious criticism from people who have campaigned against the centre because of its likely environmental impact.

One campaigner, Norman Thomas, said: “This is appalling.  Broadstairs town council has wasted thousands of pounds on plans for a centre a vanishingly small number of people wanted. Now they’re going to spend even more more money trying to get the money they’ve squandered back.

“Local residents will pay all the bills anyway, because both the town and district council funding comes out of our taxes. But now it looks like we’ll have legal bills on top of it all. This is a just sick joke.”

  1. People power can and will win the day, this council it appears does not listen to what local people want or need, are they DEAF or just stupid wasting money that could be better spent for the people of Broadstairs.
