ELECTION FIRST – A REAL MEETING IN READING STREET

Opinions diverge about the merits of the Labour Party’s meeting with Geoff Rooker and Margaret Hodge the other night. Moley is a fan of neither of these characters. But at least it was a proper public meeting which is more than the other front runners, the Tories or UKIP are doing. UKIP’s meetings are all tightly controlled and stage-managed with questions vetted and awkward customers barred. Tory meetings are non-existent. Labour’s meeting featured lots of hard questions for the panel including the Labour candidate Will Scobie. This was a real breath of fresh air. Maybe the days of open public debate at grass roots level are returning… One can but dream…
