BAD PRACTICE? HOW PRIVATISATION IS AFFECTING GP SURGERIES

A THANET WATCH REPORT. In 2011 a GP practice in Broadstairs, Kent, was taken over by the private limited company, Concordia Health. The company made patients many promises – but it all went disastrously wrong. This is an important example of the effects of the creeping privatisation of the NHS. More in Thanet Watch magazine

FARAGE WILL STAND FOR THANET

cropped-tw20-farage-cover2.pngYes, the reports are true.

Barring a tsunami engulfing Thanet between now and the end of August, UKIP leader Nigel Farage will be running for Thanet South in the next general election.

The UKIP people were due to announce the short list for selection at the end of this week and more or less did, but of course that meant saying Farage was on it, and everyone would know he’d get it, thus rendering meaningless the selection process.

So now they’re not going to say who’s on their short list, except in vague terms like “two of them are from Kent” (Farage is) and just announce who’s been selected at the end of August.

And once they do that, the circus, of course, will begin.

Local hotels and B&Bs should at least do well, as foreign and national media people compete for their rooms.

And there’ll be all sorts of wackiness, stunts and gaffes as the avowedly non-racIst, non-sexist, non-homophobic  Nige’s attempts to scale the parliamentary peaks he’s always longed to mount.

Farage, as usual, will be doing his level best to appear squeaky clean on the extreme right, loony, fascist front.

But what a cruel quirk of fate that he shares his initials with the old National Front – of which Broadstairs’s very own Martyn Heale, chair of UKIP in Thanet South, used to be a stalwart member!
